It's always great to get the opportunity to check out a new east London wedding venue, especially in Shoreditch, with all of it's cool venues and street art, and design a fitting 3 tier wedding cake.
Motel Studios is a bespoke event space with 150 year old Victorian architecture, perfect for couples wanting an industrial-chic aesthetic for their wedding day, and it provides the perfect backdrop for the modern abstract buttercream wedding cakes that I design.
For their wedding, design-conscious Jen and Christian wanted a modern abstract buttercream 3 tier wedding cake that would stand out from more traditional cakes and incorporate bold colouring.
The colour palette that they chose incorporated autumnal shades of burnt orange, terracotta and browns, along with shades of green. The buttercream texturing on the bottom and top tiers was achieved using palette knife strokes, which add depth and dimension to the cake. The middle tier was coloured with smoother technique using a scraper to acheive a watercolour effect.

To elevate the luxury quotient of the cake, I added edible gold leaf which caught the light really well and complemented the warm tones of the cake and venue.
As with all of the wedding cakes that I make, not only do they bring lots of design elements together in a complimentary way, they also taste amazing. On the inside of this cake, the bottom tier was a pear and cardamom sponge with a salted caramel and poached pear filling; the middle tier was carrot, orange and raisin cake with a roasted peach and caramelised walnut filling; and the top tier was orange and raspberry cake with a salted honey and raspberry filling.
